New system or upgrade (“fix”)

Whould like opinons on building new or “fixing” old.  I am prepared to build one of the recommended systems, but would like to know if what I have is enough and can be fixed. Will ugrading C: to SSD help? New video Card? More RAM?

My current system:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core

ASUS P5B-Plus LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

PNY GeForce GTX 285

Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro – HDMI and Analog Editing Card

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Adobe Creative Suite 5 Production Premium

Thermaltake V9 BlacX Edition with Docking Station

Hard Drives:

C: OS Programs Hitachi GST Deskstar P7K500 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

E: Vid files 1 TB (2 500G in RAID)

F: Scratch Western Digital WD Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

G: Preview files 500Gb (2 250gb RAID)

I get frustrated when tring to do simple things like multi cam. After adding just two vids, I hit play to preview. I get 1 sec and vid stops.  I can use the shuttle to go from slow to 1x to fast forward. I can hardly even play any simple effects in real time without rendering.

I have bought 5.5 so as to get 6 for free.  I have not yet installed either of them.  Will upgrading to 5.5/6 help fix my problems?

If I build new, should I:

Use Win 8, win 7 home or pro

get the GTX 660 ti over the 660 or 650

16 Gb ram vs 32 Gb ram

I believe I would use the Intel Core i7-3930K with ASUS P9X79

I hope this is enough info.  I feel like I am leaving something out

Any help would be appreciated.

Steve
